When patients receiving care at the Bangladesh Medical University Palliative Care Unit faced additional financial needs beyond medical treatment- such as purchasing medicines, family rehabilitation, educational support, fulfilling a patient’s final wishes, or assistance with burial-related expenses -individual and collective financial support initiatives were introduced to address these needs.
With this purpose, the initiative was formally named the ‘Swapno Program’ in August 2010. The responsibility of the project was later assumed by the Palliative Care Society of Bangladesh.
Currently, the Swapno Program is actively focused on educational scholarship support, covering students from primary level to university and nursing education. Through educational assistance for the children of palliative care patients, the project helps fulfill the final wishes of parents—ensuring hope, continuity, and dignity beyond illness.
